World War One US Army

The US entered World War One in 1917.  With the 100th anniversary, let's look at some of the gear in use by the US troops during the war.  Here we see photographers, French and American.  The Americans were assigned to French and British units and worked side by side with them.  The US also had strictly American units too.  In my wargame rules, troops being photographed by their own side receive a morale bonus.  The WWII German Armored Infantry set has a pair of scissors binoculars with this kind of tripod.  Make a quick little box and substitute that box for the scissors binoculars and you have a movie camera.

The HaT WWI US Infantry includes a tripod with a choice of weapons, including the 37mm gun, also called the one pounder.  It filled in a gap between the mortar and the hand grenade.

This is the Benet Mercie machine gun.  It was used pre-WWI and during the beginning of the war for the Americans.  The Imex Korean War Bren Gun with a little work might pass for this weapon.

The Newton 6 inch mortar was designed by the British but produced by both the British and USA, and used by both in the war.

This is the 8 inch gun made by Strelets, and kept in US service until early World War Two.

This rocket is used for signalling.  The HaT Napoleonic Rocket Troops set would provide rockets for these troops.
