Ring Hand Accessories

While not actually realistic I like the silver color accessories on ring hand figures.  By having a reasonable selection of accessories you can have a rather large variety of looks to your figures.  There are only five poses but with different weapons, belts, and headgear they can look very different.

They pop out better than the green ones do.

Even though the green ones are more prototypical.

The silver and read is a great combination I think.

Too bad these accessories are so hard to get.  I keep hoping someone will find the mold and re-cast them.
 

Monuments

My friend Billy Hill sent me some rather odd figures a while back.

They are rather vague WWII US Army and WWII Germans.

They are about 40mm or so.

Since I don't do that size, I figured out something else to do with them.

I made them into sculptures.

Then mounted them on a monument.

Copper, brass, and marble.

Medic

The stretcher bearers are identical so they can go front or rear.  I sometimes use four on one stretcher. .  

The stretcher handle is a weak design spot, it should have been thicker, they get broken off.

Still, you can sometimes use a stretcher with only three handles.

I have more wounded than can be carried away at one time.

This hero has a head wound, arm injury, and knee injury, yet still wears his boots like a trooper.

The WWII version of the scene from Gone with the Wind.

Aid Station

I like the Tim Mee medical set in 60mm.

The nurse is similar to the Marx nurse but the Tim Mee one has a lantern.

The Marx nurse has an IV bottle.

I like the little details like the red cross on the armbands and helmets.

Troops like to know they will be taken care of if they get wounded.

Dogs

Recently I posted some photos of the Tim Mee medical troops and I neglected to show the medical dog.

The Tim Mee 60mm troops are some of my favorite troops and I wanted you to see the dog.

He's a cute little dog, he looks like a beagle to me, but a Labrador retriever is more likely.

Still it's a great figure.  They even did them as a "civilian" without the military packs and in other colors.

Most of mine are green.

Parade

In high school, and college I was in a few.

Later, in the Army Reserve I was in more.

It was great.

Photo Tips

One of the best things about plastic army men is that they are very versatile. 

I took a hundred or more Tim Mee WWII era American Army troops and used them for a science fiction game.

The generic Tim Mee Galaxy Laser Team works well as good guys or bad guys.  They are not tied to a specific franchise so they can be anything.  At about 54mm size they are a bit small for the 60mm Tim Mee troops, but how large is a space alien?

I like to take my troops outside.  If I am careful the chance of losing any is very low.  I do try to put them in a limited space, so it is easy to find them, even if the vegetation is heavy.

With a digital camera I can take all the photos I want and not have to worry about film or developing. I take photos from high, low, close up and far away.  Use the zoom to get in close to troops that are a little too far for the macro lens.  I also crop my photos and delete a few that turn out poorly.  Cropping the photo allows the reader to focus on the most important subjects.

I went to a nearby park.  I like to go during the week when there are not many people there.  I have taken photos at many tourist places, indoors and outdoors and never had a problem.  Indoors I usually ask permission and so far have never been denied.  The last time they even made a few suggestions!

I don't move anything around, other then trash or leaves.  I don't dig holes or otherwise disturb the location.  Most people just ignore me, I have had a few comment and they were always positive.

Arctic Defense Headquarters

The big antenna is all set up to receive telemetry from the test missiles.

Two missiles will be tested today, the large payload and the small payload versions.

Today, Arctic Defense Headquarters, U.S. Army is a tent.

In the wilderness, in the snow.

With Old Glory flying overhead.

Missile Test

The troops plowed through the snow to perform the missile test.

Just because a rocket works perfectly in Yuma, Arizona in 155 degrees in the summer time,

...does not mean it will work just as well in Alaska in the winter time.

So somebody has to go out and launch a few to see if they work.

That's their mission in this cold, Arctic day.

Taking the American flag to areas of the world where no flag has flown before.
