Hat British Colonial Wagon

This is the Hat Colonial British Wagon.

I got several boxes of them and no flash on any part.

It is a bit complex for a soft plastic kit but goes together very well.

Despite being a British Colonial Wagon it is nearly identical to the American Army wagon for the same era, late 1800s to 1940s.

The US Army would usually use 6 mules but even two horses was not unknown.

I think a few headswaps will make these perfect for my American Army.
 

Colonial Ox Wagon

I got two of these Colonial Ox Wagons from HaT.

1/72nd scale flash free model that fits together pretty well.

I ordered the British Colonial Wagon but I got these two instead because the mail order company made a mistake.  I paid for them and it was more trouble than it was worth to exchange them.  This specific wagon is unique to South Africa and not used anywhere else as far as I know.  I don't do the Zulu wars so the need for this specific wagon is low.

The oxen have one separate horn that I glues on with super glue.  The hold is so-so.

You get two oxen drivers.  I got six of these, two sets of three wagons each, and my plan is to keep two of them as the original wagons with oxen towing animals.

You only get two oxen per wagon, which should be about 6 or 8 per wagon.
 

Wagons and Cavalry

This is the HaT British Colonial Wagon from the 1800s.

In this size it is essentially identical to the US Army wagons in use from 1850 to about 1945.  I just got a bunch of them for my WOTW project.  They came without boxes to reduce weight in shipping.  None are put together yet so you will have to wait a bit.

These are Revell British Hussars.  Also without a box.  It's a nice set with 16 guys on horseback, which is a lot.  These are a very nice set of figures, clean, well molded, all I expect from Revell.

The plan is to make a couple units of Hussars form my American Militia / National Guard troops for 1898, 1918 and 1938.

They will be mostly the HQ and maybe one platoon of some of the horse cavalry, so maybe some head swaps to give them some dismounted poses.
 

British WWI Tropical by HaT Industry

With only eight poses this set might seem like it is lacking a lot of poses.

But in WWI the short pants were not always worn.

So in tropical combat these guys could have a few head swaps with the Hat Set 8177 WWI British Heavy Weapons, although the gas mask should also be trimmed away.

Or use some of the Airfix WWII 8th Army figures in shorts with head swaps, they are not that much different.

These are all good action poses with no wasted troops in the group.

I only got a few boxes and I figure for the small skirmishes fought in Africa that's enough.
 

WWI Tropical Troops

In the 1930s until the 1970s stories about Europeans and American in "jungle" lands were very popular.

Not just Tarzan, but Lance Hale, and Ka Zar and others were popular stories in those days.

Often they were in or near British colonial possessions.

And so having a few troops for those regions is a must for any collection that contains the Airfix Tarzan set.

The brave British lads arrive just in the nick of time to save the safari from certain destruction by the leopard men.

Or Tarzan arrives at the fort to save the troops from certain destruction at the treacherous hand of Abu Zymbal.

HaT Set 8210 British Colonial Artillery in 1/72nd scale.

The US Army had several units that wore this kind of helmet from about 1870 to around 1900.

So while these are British, I will likely use them as US Army.

The gun is similar to the US 1895 mountain gun.

There is a also an older muzzle loading mountain gun in US service similar to this one.

Greener

The sky is starting to darken as the two giant robots are joined by a third.

Col Jim stands alone against them in the bell tower.

The robots march slowly forward.

Clomp, clomp, clomp they come.

Relentlessly, clomp, clomp.
