Boxes

A box to be unpacked.  Labelled as M60 it is likely Roco M60 tanks but could include anything.

You can see tanks inside the box and a layer of peanuts.

A 14 cubic foot bag of peanuts, I am refilling about one every day or two!

Box lid removed and a sea of peanuts to remove.

Peanuts are removed, and the contents are removed, but the box has a stain on it.

Box is cleaned up using spray cleaner and an old cloth.

A piece of cloth and a lining of bubble wrap is laid down inside the box.  The vehicles will be dusted off and returned to the box.  The bubble wrap is taped at each corner to stay in place and the index card is undated or replaced as needed.  This method of storage with peanuts got the vehicles shipped 2,000 miles, held in storage for a year and then re-shipped 10 miles to my new home with almost zero damage.  Not bad for 600+ boxes of hobby stuff and household goods.

Wagons

Unpacking the wild west.

Imex covered wagon and chuck wagons.

More figures in boxes.

Shredding in a box.

Bags of shredding.  It's everywhere!

Unpacking

Hundreds of boxes left to unpack.

I am saving the bubble wrap, and foam packaging, wrapping paper, and packing peanuts.

The small bag is 5 cubic feet of packing peanuts and the big ones are 14 cubic feet of peanuts.  I have four of the big ones so far!

Some of the boxes have been unpacked and filed under the tables.  Unfortuantely, both of my scales died in the move so I can't weigh them yet.  Heavy boxes on the top, light boxes on the lower shelves.  That makes it easier to lift the heavy boxes onto the table.

I gotta figure out what to do with these or they will fill my basement!

In the New Home!

I have unpacked about 100 boxes so for. This is about 25 cubic feet of packing peanuts.

Storage box full of shredding material.

What the tanks look like when they are uncovered.

They need to be cleaned, the box gets cleaned and then the tanks are returned to the storage box.

These are HO scale tanks mostly BT-7 by Mir and a few BT's from Permit.  MRS Bunkermeister have moved into our new custom home in Kentucky, USA.  It includes my massive wargame bunker and wargame tables.  I estimate it will take several months just to unpack, probably February, 2019.

Wargame Tables

When I spoke to my builder I told him I wanted my wargame basement to be lit up like a supermarket.

Here is the construction of the wargame tables.

My collection is in a couple hundred underbed storage boxes and so the collection will be stored on shelves underneath.

Here is Randy the Contractor building the tables.  He is building one table on top of the other because it's easier that way.

There will be a small support piece in the center of the shelves to help hold the weight of the boxes.  They get installed later.

Still lots of space in the basement.

First two items on the wargame table are a Tim Mee F104 and a F11 Tiger jets.  They are both just about 1/72nd scale.

The room is 60 feet long and the plan is to have two parallel tables, 44 feet long each.  There are walkways about three feet wide on both sides of the tables.  Tables are seven feet wide and 40 inches tall, with a four inch overhang around the edge.

The House

My wife and I are building our new home in Kentucky.

It's not just a wargaming room.  We are going to live here.

Our kitchen, dining room, and pantry area has a Coca-Cola theme.

Looking out of the laundry room into the kitchen.

Breakfast bar space.  We retired, sold our home, paid off our debts, and used all the rest of the money to have a new home built for our retirement.  It's the home we always wanted.

More of the House

The vast majority of my hobby collection has been in storage for over a year.  The view from my front door to the street.  My driveway on the left is about 100 yards long to the street.

Our house from the front.  Walk out basement opening is to the left around the corner.  Wheelchair ramp for advance planning.

House sits on 1.1 acres of land, at my old house the neighbors were eight feet, two meters, away!

My nearest neighbors are cows, here is their barn.

The front yard, the trees delineate my property.  I like taking outdoor photos with the troops, particularly the GI Joes so this land will be great for that.

House and Bunker Construction

My blog postings are often written at least 30 days ahead.  This is the view out of my upstairs window on my house, still under construction.

I told the contractor I wanted the basement wargame room lit up like a supermarket.  He installed 17 light fixtures.  This is the view from the bottom of the stairs.  The room is nearly 60 feet long and almost 30 feet wide.

Phone guys working on the phone.  The HVAC, phone, CATV, and water and sewage all run through the basement, on the ceiling or at the back wall.  My plan is for the basement to remain unfinished but to install wargame tables and a few posters, with a desk at the open end.

Looking out the walk out basement door.  There will be a small concrete pad poured here.

They are installing a very small retaining wall on both sides.

House Construction Update

MRS Bunkermeister on the ramp to the front door.  We are getting older and thought a ramp might be a good idea.  The hay will be spread around on the ground after the grass seed is planted to keep birds from eating it.

Front porch with lighting.

Side entrance.  This will go into a mud room where people can clean their shoes off and hang coats.  Rear deck exits the kitchen and is for bar-b-que and relaxing.

The little bulldozer will scrape away a space for the car port.  Driveway will be gravel.

It's 100 yards, about 95 meters from the front door to the roadway.  Lost of space to play with the Army Men outside.  My land is the right half of this picture.
