Surf Collection

My recent Hot Wheels purchases, the Surf N Turf in two different color combinations.
I have been gathering surf related buildings from Dollar Tree, Dollar General and Hot Wheels over the last couple years.  Ironically, I lived in Southern California and even worked within 100 yards of the beach and never even tried surfing.  I have been on a paddle board, boogie board, and body surfing, but it's not the same.
I did see Beach Blanket Bingo first run in the movie theater, starring Annette and her Funichellos.
Since I am building several cities, to include a generic Los Angeles / Orange County it seems surfing culture needs to be represented.  Also there is a Batman 66 episode were Batman and Joker face off in a surfing contest to see who will rule the waves.  It's a very small side collection, along with my drag racing, sports car racing, custom car collection that overlap each other and several other types of collections.  Many of the items are not in this photo but the total investment is probably less than $25 and I think it is worth it to add a little extra to the collection.

Malibu

Another hot rod for my Surf collection.
This one is Surf N Turf by Hot Wheels.
It is a nice little station wagon.
I like the front grille but the forward vision is a bit limited.
The wave motif with a surfer falling and his board is pretty cool.
Nice spare tire.
Cool surfboard on the roof.
Plastic underside is okay.

Surf Collection

While these are not all my surfing collection they are a reasonable representation of the buildings and vehicles.
Palm trees, custom cars, small beach shacks.
Surfboards leaning up against the fence.
All for a nice day catching waves.  I grew up in Southern California, I always lived within 10 miles or less of the Pacific Ocean, for about a year I lived about 300 yards from the beach.  I never had the slighted interest in learning to surf.

Malibu

Hot Wheels surf car.  Note the small surfer and his board flying through the air under the wave just behind the rear tire.

This is part of my surf theme of vehicles.

My main focus is the US Army since the first muster if English speaking militia in the New World at the Massachusetts Bay Colony in December of 1637 and their enemies up to the near future.  I also at a retro future, alternate future, spies, superheros, auto and horse racing and science fiction and a few other things.

This is a neat little car, not much for hill climbing.  But likely fast on a straight away.

Each of these sub-generas allow my US Army troops to be used in more and different games.  In Batman 66 universe, which is a movie, TV series, and a couple animated features the US Army does make several appearances, including the Haunted Tank.

So by adding these inexpensive and easy to do other groups I get more play value out of my army.  The Surf Group is less tan a dozen Hot Wheels cars and about two dozen bits of terrain from the dollar store.  So less than a $100 investment amortized over a period of about 5 years.

Adding a Hot Wheels car to the collection is about the easiest thing to do, Buy it, take it home, remove it from the package and put in on the wargame table.

In addition to that, the cars are way cool, daddy-o.

Deora III

Hot Wheels Deora III.
The Deora original was one of the first Hot Wheels cars.
In real life is it a real vehicle, and so is the Deora II.
Now we have the Deora III which is more open than the other two.
It is part of my surfing project.
Batman vs Joker to see who wins control of the surfers of Gotham City.
In the 1960s there were an estimated 40,000 surfers in California.
Who knows how many were in Gotham City?
So a battle for control of that group was important indeed!
