Imex WWII 1/72nd scale Germans converted to George Washington Brigade American ex-patriots who joined the German Waffen SS. This German bazooka soldier has been given a US bazooka, and an M-1 rifle too.

I also replaced the head from the German with an Imex Easy Company US Army paratrooper soldier and the rifle from the same source.

Here the panzerfaust soldier has been given a Valiant US Army pack and a US rifle.

A bit hard to see, but the US Army paratrooper in dark green if firing a Tommy gun. His arm, gun and left hand have been transferred to the German soldier, to give the German a Thompson. He also sports a back pack from Valiant.

Just as Russians who came over to the Germans often wore Russian uniforms and carried Russian equipment with a mixture of German gear, these Americans are carrying and wearing a mixture of German and American gear and weapons.

Geo. Washington Brigade

The Second World War in Europe started in September, 1939, but the war did not start for the United States until two years later. Some unknown number of American citizens went to Germany during that time and eventually ended up in the German Army and Waffen SS. I know of about a dozen Americans who sometime between 1939 and 1945 served for the Germans in WWII. There has long been a rumor that the Germans planned to group American POWs into a Waffen SS unit, the George Washington Brigade, and set them against the Russians.

Sine I try only to have a mild plausibility to make my wargame units, I determined that my Battle for Berlin had to include at least a squad of "American" troops who were serving in the war on Communism. To this end, I took some the very nice Imex glueable plastic WWII German figures and some bits from the rather large Valiant miniatures WWII US figures. Since German national units often used some of the equipment from their home nation.

This figure has an ammo box and bolt action German rifle. I added an American back pack and shovel after removing his German kit.

This 1/72nd scale plastic figure is pulling the fuse on a grenade. He too gets an American back pack and shovel.

These are not twinkle toe dancers, they are prone guys. I added a Thompson submachine gun. The Germans could have gotten them from the US, British, French, and Russians.

I gave this radioman a few American bits of gear on his belt. My intent is to eventually paint these guys, but I can't decide if they should be field gray or green!

I gave this guy a carbine and backpack. More tomorrow.

Winter Germans

This last Ykreol WWII Winter German is reading a map. He would make a great forward observer, or perhaps the number two for a sniper team.

This could be that sniper. The standing figure is from the Revell late war Germans. As you can see he and this Ykreol figure fit well together. They also go well with the Caesar Winter Germans, all in 1/72nd scale soft plastic.

My friend Yves sent me these figures to review and I have certainly been happy with them.

More of the Ykreol Winter Germans. This figure, in 1/72nd scale soft plastic, has a belt of machine gun ammo. A perfect companion to any German crew served MG.

This figure lays in wait with a knife. He can sneak up on Russians or ambush the point man of a patrol.

This figure has a land mine. He can be planting it or removing it, so he works well as an engineer in offense or defense.

This man has a rifle. He can serve a crew served weapon, mortar, or machine gun or stand alone. If prone guys can stand.
