The American Chaffee tanks in that movie were identified as Shermans! I find it interesting that the people who made that movie had access to lots of running Chaffee tanks in 1965, but not Shermans.jeigheffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16173914205177114792noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2748313041626107348.post-4823461836245167902024-03-11T12:46:54.305-05:002024-03-11T12:46:54.305-05:00The Heiser M24 is a nice model. They were a huge improvement on the old M5A1s. Cavalry units were supposed to get them first, but they show up in some armored divisions in the drive into Germany. These were a favorite with Hollywood and show up as US, German or British tanks in multiple movies. The M24 wasa recon vehicle andnot really meant to fight medium tanks. The M24s sent to Korea in 1950 were in Japanmostly for occupation duty and were there because it was feared that the M4A3 and M26 tanks would damage Japanese infrstructure.Gary Binderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00478188309154230081noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2748313041626107348.post-31408689360948196032024-03-11T02:37:25.453-05:002024-03-11T02:37:25.453-05:00They were not used by the British at all! They were not used by the British at all!Simonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03791963346486185268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2748313041626107348.post-90109487511408403462024-03-10T22:25:34.467-05:002024-03-10T22:25:34.467-05:00They were also used by US and British armored cava...They were also used by US and British armored cavalry reconnaissance units from just before the Battle of the Bulge through the end of the war.ColCampbell50https://www.blogger.com/profile/15910423749022189030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2748313041626107348.post-58324074851339545652024-03-10T21:12:57.876-05:002024-03-10T21:12:57.876-05:00Great looking models ! And the French used them during their war in Indochina. There were 10 a Dien Bien Phu. But you probably already know all that ! That would delay the end of the war at least two months, probably closer to six months as it would be harder to re-supply via Southern France than from the UK across the Channel.
Given the extra time the war might have lasted until September, 1945 after the US dropped an atomic bomb on Berlin and Cologne in August.
Thanks for reading and commenting Mr. 4.

BunkermeisterMike Bunkermeister Creekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15875990546662630863noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2748313041626107348.post-54317003164532473792024-03-09T19:56:00.788-06:002024-03-09T19:56:00.788-06:00Great models! But as we see as with the Tiger II, if the Maus actually became operational, it would suffer breakdowns, and needed fuel and ammo. In many cases, Allied troops found some broken down both Tiger 1s & IIs, out of fuel, ammo, etc.

Regardless I like to have those for modelling and wargaming. Even if the Maus never was fielded. GHQ has many models of German equipment in their Wehrmacht '47 line. Things on the drawing board that never came to be. That line also includes US and UK AFVs that could have been on the battlefield if the war lasted long.
