It is great to be getting some new WWII German figures. My Battle of Berlin project has reveled that there are over 80 different German armed uniformed organizations in Berlin in April 1945. Naturally, most of them have more than one uniform and often many different kinds of weapons, so the need for different figures is nearly endless.

Tim Mee Toys II

The Tim Mee Toys Armed Forces by Kevin Konen konens4@msn.com has many great photos in it. There are many items I had as a kid, but molded in other colors. These deuce and a half trucks I had several of those in green, but he shows them in red and other colors too.

The other fascinating part is the advertisements. This allows the collector to see what was for sale at what time. So you can get an idea how old an item is based on the date of the advertising. It also tells you when you have a complete set, because often after 50 years sets will be missing parts. Here he shows an ad for an atomic cannon and then the genuine article. It is a strange self propelled gun on wheels. It looks much like a wheeled version of an M109 howitzer.

The book also includes foreign troops and new items that are part of the Tim Mee collection. I did not even know Tim Mee made foreign troops until just recently. As a kid I would have loved to have Russian soldiers to fight against.

Perhaps the most useful part of the book is the clear photograph of all the US Army Tim Mee figure poses and several figure variants. I had no idea there were these often not too subtle differences in these figures. I highly recommend this very well done book on Tim Mee Army Men.

Odemars Mystery Set

In June or July of 2009 Odemars expects to release their Haunebu set #2, Crea 5. The image above is the first release of a photo of this set. Odemars has allowed me the honor of the first and exclusive look at this set. It is a World War Two era soldier mounting a horse.

There is darn little horse cavalry in 1/72nd scale and even one more guy goes a long way towards filling in that gap. The horse furniture looks right for a German horse and the soldier looks good too.

Tim Mee Toys

A group of fifty year old Tim Mee Toys plastic 60 mm army men marching in my backyard.

Tim Mee toys motorcycle troops, jeep and cannon. The cannon is similar to the French 75 with rubber tires as used by the US Army at least until 1942. I use MPC ring hand figures as artillery crews. Note in the far background is a mine sweeper guy.

Wounded stream back from the battlefront. Second litter is carried by four medics. The same medics and stretcher can be used for one medical man at each end or two. Nurse greets the first wounded man, dog waits in lower corner. Another stretcher team walks back to the front, escorted by a recovered wounded man returning to the front.

Machine gun squad lays down a field of fire on the enemies flank. More troops bring up extra ammo as the machine guns eat up ammo very quickly.

Film crew captured the incident. Note the right flank protected by sniper with telescope on his bolt action rifle and his prone #2.

None of the figures in this group are newer than 1968 and all are in great shape. Many of these are from my personal collection from when I was a child and are at least 45 years old. Some are more recent purchases but are still that old.
