60mm Death at Night

A soldier has been killed, murdered on the Atomic Testing Base. A soldier may expect to die in war, but not in peace. This is not really peace, however, it is a Cold War. Not a hot shooting war, but a war of politics, technological superiority, economics, propaganda and spies. A soldier killed on a military base is bad propaganda, the Reds will use this to show America as a violent and dangerous society.

Other soldiers, engineers, use mine detectors to sweep the area for evidence. Military technology used not in a war against enemy soldiers, but in a war against criminals right here in our midst.

This GI was on guard duty, and was stabbed in the back. A massive, deep puncture wound in his back clear evidence that this was no accident.

These two men found the body. They too were on guard duty last night. One of them had a bayonet. Could this be the murder weapon? His partner says they were together when they heard noises in the dark and heard the sudden, brief scream of their squad member. They found him seconds later, obviously dead. They reported to headquarters and asked for help.

Radio communication is maintained with headquarters in case more men are needed for security, or to search the area for the suspect.

This pair of cowboys was in the area too. They heard the scream and came to see what was happening. The FBI is questioning them too. They say they did not see anything other than the dead man laying in the weeds. That's what they say. But what are they doing on the base, at night? Looking for some lost cattle, they are ranch hands for a small spread that borders the base. They come here all the time.
