What does Hunnicutt say about it? Those words are spoken by me at least once a month. R.P.Hunnicutt wrote a series of books on armored vehicles used by the US Armed Forces. I have all of his books and they great! Watch for them used or on sale at Amazon or Barnes and Noble. Join their book buyers clubs and get the discount. These books sometimes go used for as much as $500.00 each. I refer to mine all the time. If you do US armor for any time period, or even British armor for WWII then you need these books.
Each of these books goes well beyond what the title suggests. He covers the development of the vehicle, the production, and changes to production. He covers the improvements to the vehicle and combat usage. The books are large format with acid free paper. There is a drawing or photo on nearly every page. The back of each book is filled with charts explaining the statistics for each weapon, and vehicle.
These books also cover field modifications and upgrades in later service. The Sherman has a drawing of a Sherman covered in plastic armor. The Pershing shows photos of a Pershing damaged by German tank fire. There are hundreds of armored vehicles in these books and many of them were vehicles I never even heard of until I read these book. Expensive, yes, but well worth the investment.
