Berlin Barricade

http://www.kerrandking.co.uk/ Kerr and King are makers of resin terrain. They make several different scales and here is one of their 20mm scale sets. This is a Berlin street barricade. It consists of two destroyed building fronts with a street car in the middle. This scene will work well for the Communists revolts in Germany after the First World War, the defense of German occupied cities against the Red Army in WWII, and even for those nations that revolted against the Soviet Union in the 1950s.

This Odemars 1/72nd scale Volkssturm soldier stands on the roof of one of the buildings and looks out onto the roof of the streetcar. These resin buildings are free of flash and should paint up really well. The detail is crisp and deep.

Two female German soldiers stand guard in front of the street car. The Germans turned street cars sideways to block streets. To make them better barricades, they filled them with paving stones and other debris to make them too heavy for tanks to push them aside. They also sometimes would hammer a pole into the ground next to the street car to further hold it in place.

This barricade is nicely detailed with sand bags and corrugated steel as part of the barrier. Near the end of the war the League of German Women were permitted to bear arms in defense of the Reich. The Odemars Volkssturm set has two female soldiers, one with the ubiquitous Panzerfaust and one with a submachine gun. You can check out Odemars at http://www.plasticrush.com/

This reminds me of one of the maps I used to play frequently on Call of Duty online, set in Russia. One of the main streets had a line of smashed street cars and concrete barriers to inhibit vehicle movement. Many tough firefights around those street cars.

There are a couple of street car barricade kits and this is probably the nicest.
