Good Sports

For the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Caesar Miniatures made an impressive array of sports figures sets. There are ten limited edition sets of men playing soccer, baseball, basketball, and one running and jumping over hurdles. This is one of the soccer sets.

This baseball set has a catcher, hitter and an outfielder, bending to pick up a ball on the run. The fourth figure is the runner jumping over a hurdle. From the angle in this photo that is a bit hard to see.

These basketball players in blue have men dribbling, shooting and blocking; a very action packed group. These figures are molded in a flesh tone plastic and the uniforms, and gear are painted. The bases are also flesh tone.

More soccer players. I have more of these sets on order and when they arrive I will remove them from the package and take more photos and post them. Too bad these guys are limited edition. I can see these luring a new bunch of sports fans into the 1/72nd scale figure world. Also all these games were played before World War Two and so the baseball game would not be out of place in a diorama of an American Airfield in England, the basketball players would look good at an American army base and the soccer players would work for both British and German soldiers. No Black guys in any of the sets as far as I can tell, but that can be handled with a quick dab of paint.
I hope we can see more of these figures, more track and field, discus, javelin, shot put would have been nice, and perhaps some swimmers and gymnasts, a few women runners perhaps would have been good. Perhaps these limited edition painted sets will be made available unpainted at a later date. These sets don't even appear on the Caesar website so who knows what else may be in store from them?
