Heiser Resin Model Kits

This is the hull from a Paul Heiser M4A1(76)W Sherman tank with late production HVSS Track.

Heiser Models are made in molds made out of room temperature vulcanizing rubber and rely mostly on gravity to fill the mold.  A toothpick or other small instrument can be used to help the liquid resin flow into the mold cavity.  Several molds can be cast at a time but it is a very labor intensive process and each mold only makes a few models before it is worn out.  The resin is a two part thick liquid that is mixed together to harden, all at room temperature.  The hardening process generates heat, and larger pieces will harden faster than smaller ones.  Mixing is done by hand.

All the original master models are made by Paul in his workshop, and he makes all his own molds as well.  A mold is made in a manner similar to the casting resin models.  Two parts are mixed together and poured over the master model.  Once dry in about an hour or more, the model is removed and the mold is ready for use.  The master model is usually scratch built out of plastic and is not harmed in the mold making process.
