As many of you who have read Bunker Talk for very long have suspected, I love old science fiction movies. Beginning of the End is one of my favorites. You can't go wrong if Morris Ankrum is in the movie!
In this movie giant locusts threaten to destroy the city of Chicago.
The Army has been alerted to the presence of giant locusts in the forest.
The nearby town of Ludlow, Illinois has been destroyed and the whole population of 150 people is missing.
The local National Guard commander, Colonel Sturgeon, has agreed to send a squad out to check on the report.
Colonel Sturgeon and Dr. Ed Wainwright begin to search the woods.
The squad spreads out and begins to look for the giant locust.
The men have difficulty believing such an outlandish story, but keep their weapons at the ready, just in case!

I also love this flick...good use of models and actual locusts w/ superimposition.
My personal take on this is that we didn't NEED locusts to destroy Chicago.
The POLITICIANS and GANGS did a better job, even if it took a while longer.
