In World War Two in the Pacific bored US Army Air Forces ground crews often put together bits of old planes and vehicles and made new vehicles or modified existing vehicles.

It kept their skills up and kept them out of trouble.

Post war there was a hobby of taking old fuel tanks and other aircraft parts and making race cars.

This model from Hot Wheels is one of those.

That's why it has the shark tooth mouth like a fighter plane.
