Soviet Quad Machine Guns

Here are the base, stand and ammunition magazines all assembled for the Orion Maxim Quad machine gun set.  This 1/72nd scale kit was hard to put together.  When I have a difficult model I often take time and do some research on the kit and the real machine gun.  It helps to find out where the parts go and how others solved the problems with the kit.

I then build one example of the model and once I am satisfied with the construction, I build all the others at the same time, in an assembly line production.  I strengthened the guns by adding a pair of wire cross braces and used them to tie the guns to the water cooling hoses.

The machine gun barrels.  This is an important weapon, it was used in air defense by the Soviet Union on land, on trucks, on railroad cars and even on boats.  No WWII Soviet Union collection is really complete without them.  If the model was easier to build I would have bought more, I got three sets of three machine guns.

This is the gunner, the crews are pretty good.

This guy is laying on his back and firing at low flying aircraft, it was a technique that the Soviets used from WWII until at least the end of the Cold War.
