Out of the package they feel like stone, but I suspect they are a heavy resin.

I spotted these in my local book shop the other day and having read your description assume they would make a nice pulpy terrain feature once mounted and based...
They are perfect for 1/72nd scale gaming. Even 15 to 28 given the real ones were various sizes.
