The advantage is the artillery is always moving.
So the enemy can't attack the fire base...
Because there isn't one.
It does make night security more difficult.
And requires a lot of coordination for re-supply.
However it is perfect for offensive operations where friendly forces are on the move and could otherwise outrun their artillery.
