Mammoths
Work is proceeding on two mammoth projects.
This one is a regular mammoth.
This one is a dwarf mammoth. They had dwarf mammoths not far from where I live in Southern California.
Some think mammoths may have lived until historic times. Lewis and Clark were asked to look for them by President Jefferson.

Dear Mike,
Some thirty years ago I remember reading that the bones of dwarf mammoths were found in the Aleutians and that they died out as late as the 1300's. The dwarfism effect was basically a lack of food but they could exist since there were few natural enemies (men) about to hunt them.
I know there is controversy about cloning a mammoth with viable DNA but there is part of me that is saying "So what if they went extinct? What could be the harm?"
Good luck with your project.
Jerry
Dwarf mammoths also lived in the Channel Islands off the coast of California, only 50 miles from my house! Elephants can swim, so it's reasonable to think they swam there from the mainland.
I say clone them, it's not like we are going to be over run with mammoths.
Thanks Jerry.
