During the Vietnam War the South Vietnamese government formed local militia units.

They were issued older weapons and equipment to defend their homes.

It was a good idea to enable the local folks to defend themselves, but often they were not able to stand up to better trained and equipped enemy troops.

By the time reinforcements arrived it was often too late.  These are great figures and have a lot of other uses.  They can work for most any small military force equipped with American equipment during the Cold War era.
