Haul from the Show

At the Westcoaster show I managed to pick up some dogs and white ring hand figures.  The dogs were like new and the ring hand guys were very dingy.

Soldiers always have dogs around, so I like to have a few as mascots, pets and guard dogs.

This is a recast Marx undersea vehicle.

It's sort of an undersea bulldozer with grappling claws.  Works in space too.

While I have lots of green ring hand figures I needed some colored ones.

I use the colors for civilian employees, and special jobs.  The gold ones are space men; US Army Astro Rangers.

I was lucky enough to get a missile launching pad and a raft.  I love these rafts, I don't know why, I would buy 50 of them if I could.

Brewer Bros Model Kit Expo!

Today was the Brewer Brothers Model Kit Expo at Old World Village in Huntington Beach, CA. They expected up to eighty tables and while there were a few empty ones, the turnout was pretty good. Each seller gets one or more tables and then offers new, used and often vintage model kits, accessories and other hobby items. Larry and Dimitry chat at Dimitry's table loaded with hundreds of 1/72nd scale military models.

This expo was much more diverse than most I have visited. They had military models, loads of car models, model railroad accessories; some vendors stacked models eight feet high!

My daughter Sarah had a great time with the slot car race cars. Back in the 1960's slot cars were very popular and they are making a come back. This figure 8 track was a huge hit with the kids. Slot cars have become very high tech and even use computers to keep track of laps and times.

Wiatt The Odd with a portion of his collection of vintage model kits. He has been cleaning out the garage and managed to provide many bargains to expo goers. I got four of his old B-17 kits in 1/72nd scale; they may end up as German versions. A great value, thanks Mr. Odd!

A nice selection of videos and DVDs were also on sale at the Expo. Prices were good and sales seemed to be pretty good. I got there at noon, and stayed for three hours. Afterwards several of us went out for lunch to discuss our finds. This is a good venue, parking is free and it is adjacent to a full bar and restaurant, with waitress service in the Expo.
The next Brewer Brothers Model Kit Expo is Sunday, August 16, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The admission is only $5.00 and kids under 12 are free.
modelkitexpo@hotmail.com is the contact for Chris Brewer the Event Coordinator. Tables are not expensive and a good place to sell any hobby items.

Kit Collector Show

I know many of you are thinking that you will be in Southern California on May 17, 2009 and sure there is Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Hollywood, the Queen Mary, surfing and all that but what can I do that's hobby related? Good news, there is a kit collector show that Sunday!

The Brewer Brothers have put together a kit collectors show on Sunday, May 17, 2009 from 9:00 am. to 3:00 p.m. It will be at the Old World Village, German Hall & Restaurant, 7561 Center Ave., #49, Huntington Beach, CA 92647, (714) 895-8020. Admission is $5, but if you are under 12 years old, it's free!

For more information call Chris Brewer, (562) 569-2509, or (562) 343-2805 or modelkitexpo@hotmail.com

The site is freeway close to most of Southern California, and is across the street from Bella Terra shopping center. Old World Village is a great destination on it's own with lots of old world style shops and even a hotel and church!

I go to a kit show at least once every couple years to pick up old models that are out of production that I am still looking to add to the collection. There is nothing worse than needing that last airplane for the squadron and having it go out of production. Sometimes you pay a premium, and other times you get real bargains. This is the first show for the Brewers and should be a good one. Chris is a good guy and a great hobbyist and so set aside a few hours to stop by and tell him the Bunkermeister sent you!
