Bison

Bison Latifrons is the ancient buffalo that roamed North America in prehistoric times.

Back in the days of the megafauna animals were larger than today.

They had to defend themselves against many enemies.

These massive horns helped them in the defense.

But still puny animals would sometimes attack them.

Often swarming them in groups.

Trees

Safari makes tree models for the pre-historic era. This is an evergreen.

A tree fern, the man next to the tree is a Pegasus Mission Indian as an ancient human.

Ancient cyclid tree. While no scale is given for these models they are within the range of 1/72nd scale, how big is a tree?

Grouped together they are quite impressive.

Add a few dinosaurs and you have a scene. I got mine direct from Safari, over $50 is free shipping. Trees are a bit expensive, but are done and painted right out of the bag.

Deer Men

The Imex set Eastern Friendly Indians includes a woman with a bundle of sticks and a man with bow and arrow dressed as a deer. He is perhaps the most unique soft plastic figure ever. I intend to use some of them with my prehistoric men.

Using my cutters I removed the bundle of sticks from the back of the woman. I then glued the deer skin to her back so she appears to be holding it up above her shoulders.

This guy was from the Caesar Ancient Germans, originally seen on the right and the deer covered version on the left. I removed the sword and shield. I will probably give him a spear.

This nekked Caesar Ancient German with sword and shield has been transformed into a nekked preshistoric man with spear. Having teeny tiny drill bits and a pin vice allows me to make tiny ring hand figures.

Here is the group with a couple other guys from the Caesar Ancient Germans, one has a wolf's head on his head in the manner of the Romans. They make good looking "cave men" I think.

Prehistoric People

For years I have been trying to get some figure company to make "cavemen" in 1/72nd scale plastic. Now it seems that they have been in stores and I missed them. My friend Arlin Tawzer was able to pick up this set, sold at dollar stores for me. Apparently they are long gone, but I am looking for more if they turn up again. Arlin says they have at least one more pose that he has seen.

The set comes in a little box that looks like a cliff face and it opens up to have very small dinosaurs, cavemen and some palm trees inside. They are all soft plastic.

Here is a few 1/72nd scale WWII era soldiers fighting dinosaurs alongside their caveman allies. What could be better than that?

These are the prehistoric people who are in this set. They are flash free and have a variety of weapons, including clubs and knives. These are some pretty good figures and would work well in a lost world or prehistoric times scenarios. Another reason to check out the dollar stores!

Ancient Bison

This is a Nature Toob model of long horn cattle from their Wild West set. A sturdy, painted steer that is probably about 1/48th scale.

























The same Nature Toob set also contains an American Bison in about the same scale.






















In prehistoric times the American plains were ruled by an animal that was sort of a cross between the two animals, a very large bison with very long cattle like horns. I cut off the bison horns and the cattle horns and then using epoxy glue I attached the long horns to the bison. The result was a rather convincing ancient bison. In reality, the bison is a tiny bit too large and the horns are too long for a real 1/72nd ancient bison, but since the Nature Toob is only about $8 and includes a good tee pee and wagon in addition to the animals, I can live with it.
