Soviet Artillery

Soviet D30 howitzer by Zvezda.

So far I have painted the bases, but not the guns yet.

They fit together well, it's only the first 75 or so that are hard.  1/72nd scale.

Russian Artillery Wargame Rules and Playing Aids

Long range radio antenna.  It's a Roco antenna with guide lines and a little base.

It's for a regimental command post.

Ammo dump for Russian artillery battery Russian D for Dog.

Each battery needs supplies.

Small and tidy command post.

Radios and batteries.

Desk top and unit flag.

Soviet Tanks

Twenty tanks, all ready for combat.

T44 tanks in the WWII version.

A simple yet different conversion.

Twenty tanks, two companies.

Plenty tanks for a pretty good wargame.

Captured Soviet Guns

Finland also captured a number of these guns and so you could supply them to your Finnish Army, if you have one.

The Germans used them in Normandy.

The Germans also used them in the Mediterranean theater.

So guns like this can be used in many scenarios.

I don't give my troops a lot of captured equipment, but it's nice to get something different now and then.

German Artillery

These are the 1/72nd scale Zvezda howitzer.

I painted them panzer gray for German use and painted the base a contrasting dirt tan color.

I got some extra Revell artillery crew figures from their excellent WWII German Artillery set as crewmen.

The Germans usually used these in batteries of four guns.

I have not determined what towing vehicle I will use, but probably halftracks.

Soviet Anti-Tank Guns

Plastic Soldier Company Russian ATG.

I like that their guns come with crews.

The Soviet Union used ATGs right up to the end of the Eastern Bloc.

They are a good way to secure flanks in an attack.

They are also good for consolidating ground that the tanks and infantry have taken.

They can defend against counterattacks.

They can provide fire support for tank attacks.

Russian Guns

Just as the Germans have an AT gun line, so too the Soviets.

These guns can be used as anti-tank guns or as field artillery.

Russia is a large place, and it takes a lot of guns to cover it.

The Russian army in WWII was very big.
