The Battle of the Line

The locusts begin to break out of the forest all along the line.

A bazooka fires, but locusts are harder to hit than a tank.

Hand grenades, throw hand grenades.

The chitin is too thick, the shrapnel just bounces off.

The bazooka man fires again.

This time a hit, a kill, but it's only one of hundreds.

They are breaking through the line.

Attack of the Locusts

When the locusts attack they make a loud screeching sound.

The men hear it!  SCREECH!

It's the locusts!

Open fire.

Despite being 18, even 20 feet long the green locusts are almost invisible in the green forest.

They crash through the underbrush.

Dozens, hundreds, thousands of them in the attack.

The men are firing so fast the barrels of their rifles are turning red, the ammo is already starting to run low!

A Second Line of Defense

The full force of the Chicago National Guard is in the field.

The plan is to stop the locusts before they can get to Chicago.

The troops are deployed in large numbers.

Heavy self-propelled artillery has been brought it.

The men are taking up positions along the dry stream bed.

An experimental short range rocket has been brought along.

Television cameras are here to document the battle and some of our top scientists are here to monitor the attack and assist with the missile.

They don't have much time, the locusts are near!

Overwhelming Force

They are killing the troops.

The locusts are fearless and charge straight into the machine guns.

The line is broken.

The troops are overwhelmed and in full rout!
