Photo Cartoons

A while back I took some photos of the buildings that I was working on and some of my vehicles.

My daughter has some magic program that makes the photos look like drawings, rather than photos.

Here are a large group of WWII German soldiers lined up in front of the Reichstag.

Along with the infantry, there is a massive array of tanks and halftracks. This looks just like a graphic novel!

Here is another view of the Reichstag and it shows some of the garage too.

It is amazing what you can do with photos and computers these days.

More Cannon Assembly

The HO scale 170 mm gun from ArsenalM has this sheet of etched brass bits.

The most important etched parts are the walkways on the sides of the gun trails.

I have cut them off, folded them up and rather than hang them by other small etched brass bits, I am gluing them directly to the trails. Not perfect, but much stronger and for a wargaming piece, strong is good.

They look really good when they are installed. So far I have been putting them together with CA glue but will go back and strengthen up some of the joints with epoxy.

Fidelis Models Motherlode

Recently I visited with Paul Heiser from Paul Heiser Models and Randy from Fidelis Models. Randy sent me a new listing of items he just got in stock. He has been going over his inventory and as he finishes a section he sends in a big restock order for various companies. When we are with Paul Heiser, Randy got bag after shopping bag full of Paul Heiser stuff. Wow.

The Hauler and SDV stuff is HO 1/87ths scale, most of the rest is 1/72nd scale. Check out his website and if you have a question, drop him an email.

Resin Models

Last night I posted some photos of some new Paul Heiser Models. I know that many people don't like to buy resin kits because they think they are too hard. Resin models can be difficult, but they don't have to be hard to build.

Paul Heiser Models are very easy to build. Typically they have very few parts, that only require a small amount of clean up and they are then easily put together. I use an X-Acto knife to trim away the flash. Then I use a sanding stick to clean up mold lines and to scruff up the surfaces that need to be glued.

I use a two part, five minute epoxy to glue Paul Heiser Models. Some small parts get glued together with gap filling Superglue. Hatches, detail parts, like shovels, gas cans and such are easily glued on with Superglues. The epoxy is best for the larger parts, like gluing tracks to the hull of a tank. All the same model tools that are used on styrene models can be used on resin models so you don't need new tools. The same paints work on resin models too.
