Pegasus Paratroopers
Larry Pegasus sent me these two photos of a prototype master figure from the WWII German Paratrooper set he is working on. This set will be out in 2009 or 2010. He says there are a couple errors on some of the masters that have already been fixed or will be fixed soon. If you spot any errors or otherwise want to make a comment, use the comments portion of this blog, Larry and his minions read it all the time to keep up with the latest developments.
I think this is a great looking figure, not unlike the pose from the old Airfix WWII German Infantry set, one of my favorites. Notice the SMG and other bits are in light resin. They sculpt weapons and accessories first, copy them in resin and use the copies on all the troops so that the weapons and water bottles, etc all look the same on each figure.

A nice standard pose. It appears he is ealy war thru the Kreta campaign, as his knochensach [bone bag, his jumpsuit] is the pattern that didn't open up but was essentially a pair of short- legged coveralls. I look forward to this set as the the one with the power to break the WWII German paratrooper jinx.

Larry Pegasus says he really likes the German WWII Paratroopers and may make two sets! I saw his master set up and he had enough to do at least two sets.
When i could buy this soldiers in Europe?
Thanks
This German Paratrooper is a master sculpt. They are still working on the masters and it will be at least a year perhaps two before these are in stores anywhere. Making model figures takes from three to five years. Larry Pegasus has worked on these for about two or three years already just to get this far.
Nice to see that the German paratroopers are under way. I have seen some of the poses on the Panzer46 site too and they look good, especially the MG42-gunner and the paratrooper firing his MP40.
I hope that we will also see such weapons like FG42, MP44, rifle with rifle grenade attachment, flamethrower and Panzerfausts in the set(s?). Something I would like to see is a set of German paratroopers with support weapons. Perhaps with two medium and one heavy mortar and two recoilless LG40 guns with crews. That would truly be a wonderful addition to a modeller/wargamer like me.

Larry Pegasus really is into the German Paratrooper set. He keeps adding poses to the point where we may be lucky enough to see TWO sets of German Paratroopers!
Watching this fine master all I can ask myself is... what in the name of God happened here? what went so wrong when producing the 1/32 copies? damn it, these were destined to replace the poorly detailed Airfix paras on 1/32, but failed, head came out small for the bodies, weapons with very little detail, faces with too subtle facial features and small for 1/32.
A great figure in one scale does not always translate into a great figure in another size. Detail that looks good in a one inch figure may not be enough for a 2 1/2 inch figure. Figure making is as much art as technical process. Pegasus is great for 1/72nd scale and I think these are the best paratroopers ever, in that size.
Thanks for reading Martin.
