Panzer III MG

The HO scale Roco Panzer III is a nice little model, but the front end is a bit bare, no bow mounted machine gun!

Head out to your local craft shop and buy some little tiny beads, about 1- 2 mm in diameter.

Then get a bit of stiff wire that is thin enough to go through the hole in the beads. I got my wire at an R/C airplane store. Take a couple beads with you to make sure the wire fits.

Using a pin vice, drill a tiny hole in the front of the Panzer III. It should be the same diameter as the wire.

Put a drop of model glue on the hole, insert the wire and slide a bead over the wire and flush against the front of the tank hull. Instant ball socket and machine gun. Project costs less than $5 and you can do about 100 Panzer IIIs.

  2. Simple and effective - perfect for that scale! Any thoughts on how to do it for 1/72 or 1/76?

  4. Erhntly, thanks!

easternfunker, just use larger beads. Also, if you have a surplus of machine guns, use the barrel from an MG 34 in 1/72nd scale. Remember, they did not use the MG 42 as a ball mounted machine gun on tanks.
