Roco Stug III

After 30 years of warfare, some of my Stug III collection are in need of some work.

I have a shortage of long barrels, the machine gun shields are missing on many of them.

Many are missing hatches.

Some don't have a machine gun in the shield hole.  Several of them are missing the spare road wheel in the back of the hull.

A few of them are just broken.  I cast up a few shields and hatches and have started repairs.

Paints

Hobby stuff is where you find it.

It's coming up on Easter and I found these pastel colors in the Easter stuff section at Hobby Lobby.   It was very inexpensive, for what one regular hobby paint jar would have cost I got all these colors.

Pastels are good for painting the insides of caves.  They are also going to be used in another project I have going.  The morale of the story is to look for hobby stuff everywhere because you can find it in unusual locations.

Fire and Meat

Meat on the fire!

Simple spears and bows can bring in food.

It's a happy day for the tribe.

Eggs

Always check out seasonal items.

These little Easter eggs look like candy, but they are plastic, sixty of them for only two dollars at Hobby Lobby.

Real birds have eggs in many colors.  These penguins have green, white and pink eggs.

Prehistoric penguin rookery with prehistoric plants.

This type of detail really helps make the ancient penguins more realistic.

Of course, penguins are not the only thing that uses eggs to reproduce.

Penguins

Hobby stuff is where you find it.  I often find it at Hobby Lobby and sometimes in Toobs.

As you may have guessed, this one is penguins.

Did you know baby penguins are gray?

http://archaeologynewsnetwork.blogspot.com/2012/11/giant-penguin-fossils-found-in.html#.Uy-mP1e0S9U  Recent discoveries say that ancient penguins stood at least two meters tall.

Of course, in a Lost World environment they might be as large as a mini-submarine.

Nazi soldiers explored Antarctica, and they may have encountered giant penguins in a Lost World.  I anticipate re-painting the group to match each other and the ancient penguins.

Stug III

The Stug III was often tasked with supporting infantry.

Being used to destroy machine gun nests and bunkers was a good job for this tank without a turret!

Close cooperation was important if the Stug III was to avoid Russian tank hunter infantry.

My WWII German Stug III company.  One platoon is down for maintenance.

Tracks are added to the hull and sides for added armor protection.

This is a mid to late war unit.

My HQ Stug is in a lighter yellow camo scheme.  The vehicle next to it is a munitions carrier / ARV version of the Panzer III.

Stug III

Roco Stug III with Caesar Miniatures.

Trees by Marx.

The Roco Stug III is a bit plain, so I added tracks and a MG 34 to the shield.

Not all of them got the same upgrades.

I also added fuel cans to some of them.

These Stugs are probably 40  years old.

These infantry are less than a month old.
