Silent Night

In the wilderness of the Old West...

...there was a saying....'s quiet.

Too quiet.

Something is frightening away the birds and the crickets.  Something ominous, perhaps?

In a few hours a small band is scheduled to play a few tunes here.

With so little to do here, people live a simpler life.

Most are retired military, many had major injuries.

Sometimes a whole arm was replaced.

In many ways the replacement arm is is better than the original, but not really a reason to have an arm amputated.

Broad streets, but not filled with traffic.

Despite all the homes being occupied there are still very few people here.

The government wants more people to live here, but it will take years.

The gazebo sits empty.

The streets are usually pretty deserted.

Tidy Homes

The tidy community was safe, peaceful, organized and laid out well.

Most of the few vehicles are like this one, able to traverse the open spaces outside of town were there are no roads, since there is no where specific to go.

This four wheel drive truck is another common vehicle.

This fancy roadster waits for more roads to be built before it can live up to it's potential.

Tidy homes, street lights, potted plants, what could be more serene.

A small humanoid shuffles down the street.

The streets are wide but mostly used for people, there are so few vehicles.

Most of the first houses here were built to the same pattern, nice houses but later they added variety.

Green spaces were confined to close in landscaping and a few potted plants.

Most of the heavy work here is done by simple automatons.  This was a bug planet and now that they are all dead, and gone, there is little vegetation and few hands to grow crops.

Western style houses are very popular, even if they are in a far off place.

A few cobblestones, and a couple potted plants make a place look like home.

Even in a strange land filled with strange people.

Not many cars here, because the town is so small, not many places to go.

Not much to see here either.

Danger, web! On Sol 3.

Cave spiders are one of the greatest dangers on Sol 3.

The DR has gotten himself entangled in a web, they are nearly invisible in the darkness, and the glowing cave spider is attacking!  They are the most deadly.  One drop of their poison can kill a regiment.

The corporal takes careful aim with his carbine.

Zip!  Zip!  Zip!  Zip!  Zip! five shots, one into each eye.  Killed him right away.

The Doctor is glad he had friends with him today, who were armed and ready for action!

MPC 60mm ring hand figures, aquarium rock and dollar store spider and web.

Giant spiders feature in many science fiction and fantasy movies and stories.

I was able to pick up some good ones recently at Dollar Tree.

It has three very large glow in the dark spiders and one large web.

There are several versions of the spider.

The outside of the web is steel and the remainder is a fabric.  It seems pretty strong.

Spiders are attached with a blog of hot glue and so they come off very easily.  I got there of them.

Frost Fighter

This is a new Matchbox vehicle called a Frost Fighter.

I don't know if it is a real vehicle or not, but it's pretty neat.

The US Army has experimented with many vehicles of this type.

The individual track sections take the place of the wheels on a four wheel drive truck.

I may cut some of these tracks off and attach them to a 2 1/2 ton truck.

Looks good with their other new army truck and 1/72nd scale figures.

Oshkosh makes a truck called an M-ATV.

Now Matchbox makes one too.

It's a great little vehicle for a buck.

It even has a nice little turret, but no machine gun.

While I have not measured it, it does seem to work well with 1/72nd scale figures.

I got this one at Target.
